Robert Louis Stevenson was a 19th century Scottish writer famous for his adventure works such as 'Treasure Island' and 'The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde'. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1850, Stevenson came from an upper-middle-class family background and originally planned to become a civil engineer, but eventually decided to pursue a career as a writer. His first major success was "Treasure Island," which was published in 1883 and became a children's literature classic. 

This book tells the story of Jim Hawkins, a young boy who goes looking for treasure on a desert island with the help of Captain Long John Silver. Published in 1886, "The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" is a darker story that explores themes of the duality of soul and human nature.
